A student ministry leader consists of two parts, being apart of the student ministry team, and walking students through the difficulties of their phase of life.  
Being apart of the student ministry team means you are not just a volunteer on Wednesday nights.  You are the hands and feet of our ministry and we view you as part of our team not just an extra body.  We want you to be apart of team building events, help plan the ministry schedule, help run the youth group night, and even teach if that's something you're interested in.

Walking with students doesn't just mean being a small group leader on Wednesday nights.  It means being a mentor that cares for them and wants to be apart of their life through the good and the bad.  Whether it's cheering them on at a sporting event or it's meeting them for coffee to comfort them after a break up, we as leaders are there for them.

Being a middle school leader is both a rewarding and challenging job.  It is an amazing thing to watch God work in their lives but it is also quite a commitment.  Before joining our family, we would like you to know everything that you are committing to.

Consistency:
During the school year, middle school meets every Wednesday from 6:30-8:30PM.  Leaders also have a mandatory leaders meeting 30 minutes before we start at 6:00PM.  We understand that life happens and there will be times that you can't make it, but we do want to stress the importance of being consistent on a weekly basis.  In many cases, you could be one of the most consistent parts of a student's life.  

Investing:
We want all of our leaders investing into our student's not just in small groups, but into the day to day lives of the students.  That could be in the form of a bible study, meeting their family, or just a simple check in text.  This may seem like a lot but it can be more simple than you think.  We will help train you to know how to set boundaries in both your life and theirs.

Involvement:
Student ministry leaders aren't babysitters.  We are there to interact with students and build relationships with them so we can further invest into their lives.  This means worshipping with students, being loud with students, and yes, sometimes playing crazy games with students.

Special Events:
Over the school year we have multiple special events which include 1 weekend retreats as well as an in-town discipleship focused overnight .  These are not mandatory, but we ask that all leaders commit to at least one event.
Summer:
During the summer we meet every Wednesday  at 6:30PM.  We understand that Alaskan summers mean a lot of travel and fun, but we ask that leaders try and come as much as possible.

Leader Training/Events:
Several times throughout the year we like to get together as leaders to have fellowship as well as grow ourselves as student leaders. We do ask that all of our leaders try their best to be at all these events.  We feel that it is important for all our leaders to feel connected to one another and not just show up to student events.

At CPSM, we think it's important to meet and learn about who will be speaking into the lives of the students.  Because of that, we do have a lengthy process to ensure a good fit both for the students and our leaders.  Here's what it will look like:

• Fill out the leader application that fits your demographic below.

• You will receive a follow-up email with a link attached that will have additional forms for you to read and fill out.

• After those steps have been completed, Dayna Stierwalt, CPSM's coordinator, will reach out for an in-person interview.

• Following the interview you will be emailed a background check that you will need to complete.

• After that, the process will be complete and you will be contacted to talk about leader training and when you will start as a leader!
