An excellent Mother's Day Letter
Proverbs 31:10-31 contains a beautiful acrostic poem declaring the virtues of Eshet Chayil - The Woman of Valor (or Competence). In this Poem King Lamuel shows the benefits everyone in this woman's life receive as the result of her wisdom.
For this Pastor's Challenge, I invite you to write an appreciation letter to a Woman of Valor in your life. No one lives up to this list as a standard (31:10), but it provides a wonderful guide for areas to look for the results of wisdom in the life of the woman you want to honor.
As you write your letter, skip categories that don't apply and focus on those where you can give concrete examples of how they embody this virtue.
Dear [Mom],
I'm writing this letter to tell you a few things that I appreciate about you.
v. 12 - I appreciate the way that you listen to me. I love that I can also trust you. Safe people are hard to find and I'm grateful to have one in you.
v. 13 - I appreciate all of the hard work that you do. You are such an industrious person and you remain an example to me.
v. 14 - I appreciate how you think things through for the family. We always seem to have what we need and I know that doesn't happen by magic.
v. 15 - I appreciate the way you cared for us as kids. *or* I admire the way you have stepped in to care for [this person] during this season. I know it can't be easy, but I just want you to know that I admire you for it.
v. 16 - I appreciate the things you do for our community. [This community] wouldn't be the same without your investment.
v. 17 - I think it's so cool that you [participated in this athletic event]. You are a rockstar.
v. 18-19 - I admire your success in business, and love seeing God reward your skill, faithfulness and hard work.
v. 20 - I admire your heart for those in need. The way you care for [these people] reminds me of Jesus, and is an inspiration to me.
v. 21 - I appreciate your thoughtfulness toward us (your kids). It lets us know you love us.
v. 22 - I appreciate the way that you care for yourself. We love you and love seeing you well.
v. 23 - I'm proud to be your [daughter/son].
v. 24 - I appreciate the way you advocate for us. We would not be where we are in the world today if not for you.
v. 25 - I appreciate your confidence in the world. When my world is spinning out of control, you are there to give me strength.
v. 26 - Thank you for your investment in me. The things you taught me. The time you spent with me. The patience you've shown me.
v. 27 - Thank you for being my mom, and everything that has meant.
Love,
