DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. If you were assigned the task of going into a community and "preparing the way" for some high ranking official or celebrity who would follow you, what do you think that task would require? What cultural realities would you need to be aware of? What would you try to communicate and why?

2. Look at Matthew 3:1-12. What can you say about the cultural realities that John the Baptist had to deal with? What specific things did John the Baptist communicate about the coming of Messiah and why were they important?

3. How might the model of John the Baptist serve as a guide for us as we attempt to "prepare the way for others to experience life in Christ?" Is John's example relevant to the way we should be "doing evangelism?" If so, how?
